Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene has announced his retirement from Twenty20 International cricket match after the end of the 2014 Twenty20 World Cup in Bangladesh. The news was announced by the International Cricket Council via Twitter, meanwhile another cricketer form the Sri Lanka veteran Kumar Sangakkara also announced his retirement from the Twenty20 international World Cup match after the ongoing 2014 Twenty20 World Cup.

The 36 years old Sri Lanka cricketer Jayawardene is the captain and in 2012 under his captain ship he has lead his team to the final of World Twenty20 tournament and was beaten by West Indies. He had played about 49 T20's tournaments with scoring 1335 runs at 31.78, with a strike rate of 134.17. The 49 games he had scored about eight half centuries and a century against Zimbabwe in 2010 Twenty20 World Cup international matches.

When asked regarding the decision for his retirement from t20 Jayawardene said that “The rationale is pretty much same as Sanga's. When it is clear that I can't see myself playing in the next ICC World T20, there wasn't much point in me occupying a spot and also said that it makes more sense for a youngster to come into the mix and establish himself.
